Valentine's Dangerously

How food writers Benjamin Lews and Rodrigo Velloso do Valentine's Day, with new recipes and recipes from their book

Nobody's gettin' any pomegranate ice cream

If we don't get any, then nobody is getting any! One night, we were at this bar and one of of our friends was making progress with the best looking woman there. Heh heh, or so he thought until he suggested "let's have ice cream at our place." By the time this "from scratch" dessert was ready to eat, everyone had passed out cold - alone. So, if you're bitter about someone else's happiness this Valentine's Day, we have two words for you: icecream party!

3 cups of whipping cream
1 cup of milk
1/2 cup of sugar
1 vanilla bean, split
4 large egg yolks
2 pomegranate

In a saucepan, heat the cream, milk, sugar and vanilla bean until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling.

Whisk egg yolks in a bow and gradually add 1 cup of the cream mixture. When smooth, add it all back into the pan.

Whisk constantly over low heat until it thickens slightly and coats the spoon, about five minutes. Don't let it boil.

Remove the pan from the heat.

Remove the seeds from the pomegranate and extract the juice with a mortar and pestle.

Take the vanilla bean out of the pan and add the fruit juice. Put in the refridgerator for an hour until cool.

Put everything ice cream maker and stir every 10 minutes for an hour, or follow the directions of your machine. By this time no eat. People drunk. Shower cold.
